BBBC PHOTOGRAPHY

March 2008 - Stumpy Lake BBBC birdwalk 3-15-08

It looks like the weather guessers were wrong (thank goodness) and we had a great morning for 22 birders to see and hear the birds of Stumpy Lake Golf Course. We split into two groups (many thanks Ed Richmond for leading one group!) and birded around the clubhouse, entrance road and wooded trail. Let me share some of my favorite sights. It was great to see the Wood Duck couple that flew around before landing in their nesting tree at the edge of the wooded trail. The female went right into the nest hole and peaked out while the male perched on the edge of a tree in the sunlight to show off how handsome he was! Great Sight! Another great sight was the pair of young Bald Eagles that flew all around and interacted with each other by one flying upside-down showing its talons to the eagle beneath it! AWESOME! It was sweet to see the little female House Finch flitting all around with nesting material in her mouth while her male sang in the tree. It was also very nice of a couple of Pine Warblers to come down from the treetops where they were singing to give us some good looks. We were also able to enjoy a nice variety of woodpeckers and they could be heard banging on the trees all around the lake. We identified 36 species of birds listed below:
